Solid Structures is serving as the general contractor for a new 17,372-square-foot secure housing facility at the existing Newberry County Detention Center in Newberry, South Carolina. The 89-bed facility is designed to expand Newberry County’s detention capacity while supporting safer, more efficient facility operations.
The project combines a pre-engineered metal building system with prefabricated steel detention modules and concrete masonry construction. The facility includes single- and two-person cells, dormitory housing, dayrooms, showers, control areas, exercise yards and supporting operational spaces. Its specialized building systems include HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection and integrated detention security technology.
Construction within an active detention complex requires careful sequencing, controlled site access and close coordination among specialized trades. The project demonstrates Solid Structures’ experience managing complex public-sector construction where security, continuity of operations, system integration and quality execution are essential.
